I’ve demoed the Cabrinha Switchblade kite boarding kite a few times (and had the pleasure of riding one at beautiful Lake Arenal, Costa Rica!) and it’s sweet: very responsive, stable, turns fast and easily depowers. This hybrid (see more on kite shapes in Kites) also has an excellent wind range.
The kite has five struts that provide plenty of stability and canopy support. The struts are segmented to increase overall kite performance and keep the canopy true to its intended shape regardless of the wind conditions or angle of attack. It’s a smooth-flying kite that feels good in light wind and it also handles the gusts extremely well. The kite goes upwind great and when you send it you’ll get huge air.
The kite has been around for eleven years and it’s still going strong. For 2016 Cabrinha enhanced the kite’s profile for even better light wind conditions. They added the Pure Profile Panels to enhance the kite’s aerodynamics and thin out the profile a little to create a higher performance, faster-flying kite.
Cabrinha also fine-tuned the kite’s wingtips (made them a little smaller) for more efficiency, less stall sensitivity and faster turning capabilities. The kite’s Dynamic Arc gives the kite two arc shapes. It has a flying shape once the kite is up in the air and the front lines have tension. If you crash the kite on the water the Dynamic Arc opens the kite’s span and moves the wingtips into a position to make relaunching easier.
The kite also features a full-draft forward, rounded-entry design that provides forward acceleration and helps the kite to power upwind. You’ll definitely like this kite and have way too much fun on it! For more info, including pricing and ordering, click here: Cabrinha Switchblade 2016 kiteboarding kite.
